For 2015 Pantone Color of the Year, think Garnet!

Pantone Marsala

The International color authority, Pantone announced that the 2015 Color of the Year is “Marsala, a naturally robust and earthy wine red.”

“Marsala enriches our mind, body and soul, exuding confidence and stability. Marsala is a subtly seductive shade, one that draws us in to its embracing warmth.”

It’s already hit the runways and you’ll see lots of this color coming this year. If you plan on investing in Marsala-colored fashions, try pairing with grays, pinks and pale blues. Also neutrals like taupe, golden yellow and green-blue such as turquoise and teal, and will all complement Marsala.

If you’re not ready to invest in too much of the color, you can also just accessorize with Pantone’s Color of the Year, with shoes, pillows, or our favorite:  jewelry.

When it comes to jewelry, Marsala reminds us of Red Garnet, the birthstone for this past month, January.

Garnets have been known to Man for thousands of years. The warm red of the Garnet help illuminate Noah’s Ark. Garnets are also found in jewelry from early Egyptian, Greek and Roman times. Many early explorers liked to carry a garnet as a protective stone, as it was believed to light up the night and protect its bearer from evil and disaster. Today, science has taught us that the garnet’s luminosity comes from its high refractive index.
Today, garnets mostly come from African countries, but also from India, Russia and Central and South America. The skilled hands of cutters the world over work them into many classical shapes, but also increasingly into modern, imaginative designer cuts.

Stay tuned for more info on next month’s birthstone for February:  Amethyst, the purple variety of the mineral quartz and a very popular gemstone that is associated with spirituality, wisdom, sobriety and security.
